Do you stay alone?” This made the woman get suspicious about the driver’s intention. He kept on asking, “Why are you so angry that you are not saying anything”! Upon ignoring the driver, he increased the radio volume and started driving rashly. Ultimately, he asked the passenger to get out of the car in nowhere and continued to follow her till the woman pretended to note down the cab number which made the car speed off and flee.

However, when she complained in the Uber app, she felt assured that she would hear from them soon. But the tormented passenger got a call from an unknown number stating that a complaint has been filed against her instead. Hereafter, when one of her office friends advised her to call back in the same number, the person on the other end of the call posed as an Uber executive and said, he was talking from the head office. Surprisingly, while talking to that “executive”, the woman got doubtful that the same Uber driver who had asked her to get off his cab was talking to her.

  • Similarly, on 14th January 2019, a cab driver was arrested for his misconduct with a female employee in Kolkata, West Bengal. The incident occurred when the woman passenger was travelling from Camac Street to Survey Park, where her house is situated. The driver began misbehaving once they were midway. Though the lady passenger had confirmed him to take the main road; he tried to take the inside lane which was unfamiliar to the commuter. The driver started misbehaving, as the woman forced the driver to follow the navigation. The driver used offensive words to the woman passenger and mistreated her. Though no molestation charge was lodged however, the passenger filed a case against the driver under sections 506, 504 and 509.

There are numerous such incidences occurring frequently countrywide, few of which are getting reported and few are being neglected or ignored.
